Hotel Tonight revamps HT Perks reward program… for the better?

Did you receive an email from Hotel Tonight about how they’re making over their rewards program? Here’s what the email had to say:

WE’RE TAKING PERKS TO THE NEXT LEVEL We’ve revamped our HT Perks program to make it even cooler and more valuable to you. As always, the more you book, the better the deals get – and there’s now no limit to the number of levels you can hit…. To get in on all the new Perks benefits, make sure you’ve updated to the latest version of the app.

Quickly looking over the email and details of what the difference is, it seems as last-minute hotel booking company is expanding on the amount of levels you can hit by booking often and shifted the tiers. Prior to this update, I was at level 3, but after the revamp, I’m level 5. Here’s a breakdown of what Hotel Tonight levels offe you:

As a Level 1 member, you get access to exclusive, extra-discounted Geo Rates based on your current location.
As a Level 2 member, you get access to extra-discounted rates, available whenever you see the HT Perks badge.
As a Level 5 member, you tripled your original HT Perks discount, available whenever you see the HT Perks badge.

I am not immediately able to figure out what the difference is between three and five, but sounds like it activates different awards.

Plus, you can now opt to use your Geo Rate or HT Perks discounts when you book, or save them for a later booking. Your booking, your discount, your call. You choose if you want to use your extra discounts now, or save them for later.

The above sentences are weird to me, too: “you can now opt to use your Geo Rate or HT Perks discounts when you book, or save them for a later booking” — it’s nice that you want to be flexible, but why would you want to pay a higher rate so you can pay a lower rate later on? Isn’t the point of Hotel Tonight to save as much money as immediately as possible? It used to be that Geo Rates were automatically applied. In any case, I’m probably misunderstanding that “benefit” and we’ll have to wait and see if this update is actually better.
